Rebuilding credit, pricing and modeling to support 4x origination growth
A BlackRock- and TruStage-backed personal lender with $6B+ originated since inception, funded through credit union and institutional partners, needed credit infrastructure built for growth and investor scrutiny.
Situation
Happy Money originates personal loans that are funded by partners, including credit unions and institutional investors. The model depends on partners believing the credit numbers. Every pricing decision, approval-rate change and model update has to hold up to an investor's diligence as well as internal review.
The growth plan called for credit, pricing, modeling and reporting infrastructure built for higher volume and for institutional scrutiny.
Approach
- Rebuilt credit policy and pricing from the ground up, tying approval and price decisions to loss-adjusted returns by segment instead of headline approval rates.
- Led development of a next-generation credit model, launched publicly in 2026, designed to deliver stronger risk-adjusted returns for funding partners while expanding access.
- Rebuilt reporting and governance, so partners and the board saw consistent vintage-level performance against expectations.
- Led a team of 18+ across credit, pricing and analytics.
Result
The analytics and governance foundation supported 4x origination growth and new institutional capital, including a forward-flow agreement led by Fortress Investment Group and Edge Focus for up to $500M.
Relevance for clients
For a marketplace or partner-funded lender, credit infrastructure is a capital-markets asset. Credible models, consistent reporting and documented policy are what move a funding partner from a pilot to a program.
